What time is the right time to purchase my gown?

It is that time of the year again! We are getting into the season where new engagements abound, but also one where the coming summer's weddings become a reality...and QUICKLY! In order to ensure our brides the most enjoyable and smooth gown shopping experience, we would like to share with you some strongly supported information:

In general, the best time to begin shopping is approximately a year and a half in advance, depending on what kind of shopper you are. This gives you enough time to see all you need to and to feel comfortable with the gown you have chosen to wear for your wedding! With that being said, if you will be placing a special order on a gown, we suggest that you do so approximately 10 months to a year before your wedding date. As most gowns average around 5-7 months production/delivery time in addition to 3 months alteration time, this time frame makes the entire process stress-free and accounts for any other factors. Other things to consider this time of the year: many dress makers take a month-long vacation in January that can affect lead time, as well as any custom measurements, like hollow to hem or special design changes, that many brides now desire. However, we would like to remind you that Becker's is ranked third in the country for the amount of samples we have in stock, many of which are available to be purchased and taken home the day you try them on. An extra bonus is that in the month of December all stock gowns paid in full are 15% off! In this scenario you don't have to wait a single day for your dress! Remember, Becker's always has been, and always will be, here for YOU! We want to make this a pleasant and enjoyable memory for you to carry for the rest of your life.

Celebrating the 75th Anniversary spirit, Becker's continues to host trunk shows that offer you amazing styles with discounts on regularly protected industry prices. During the week of October 10th-17th all Moonlight styles will be featured for a trunk show. When this exciting week has ended, October 24th-31st, will mark the beginning of our Allure Bridals trunk show. During this week, Allure will be sending Becker's (and Becker's alone) pre-cut styles for Spring 2010. These designs will not be shown anywhere else until next year and will only be available for preview during this special trunk show. This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 13th, 14th, and 15th, we will be holding our Casablanca Trunk show. The company has sent us fifteen of the best selling designs to be featured at a rare discount opportunity for this weekend ONLY.

The exclusive Aire collection out of Barcelona and exclusive to Becker's in Michigan will also be featured in a trunk show on Friday, March 20th, Saturday, March 21st, and Sunday, March 22nd. These three days the couture gowns will also be offered at a discount not usually offered.

While these trunk shows are taking place, brides are always more than welcome to shop the other 3,000 wedding gowns in the store.

Please note that Friday and Saturdays of trunk shows will hold regular business hours, and on those rare Sundays we will be open from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Becker's in 2009 has introduced several new dressing rooms in the bridal salon, a new Barcelona based bridal designer (Aire), and lots of sensational trunk shows. Also, the anniversary celebration gift bags are a hit! We are looking forward to the coming months and serving all of the brides of 2009 and 2010 (even 2011). As always, walk-ins are more than welcome. It is hard to believe that it is already time to start thinking about the Christmas season, but after Halloween this weekend, it will likely be here before we know it! We have already been receiving inquiring calls about our Holiday hours. To help everyone avoid any inconveniences they are posted as follows:

In 2009, Becker's Bridal will be celebrating its 75th year of serving the vision of bride's from all over Michigan and surrounding states. It was in 1934 that my grandmother, Eva, brought back one wedding gown from Chicago for a local patron (see right photo). The rest is history. Today the family owned business is operating with its fifth generation of daughters and is ecstatic to be continuing the legacy into its 75th year. Thanks to all of our past, present, and future brides we are able to continue to offer the pieces, service, and experience we take pride in. We just couldn't wait for the year to turn! To commemorate this milestone we have decided to pass on the birthday favors to you! As of Monday, September 22nd, all special tag gowns will be offered at 30 % off, the highest savings yet. It is that time of the year again... Allure's test program is visiting Becker's Bridal! For a very limited time you will be able to try on prospective designs from Allure Bridal's Spring 2009 collection. The reception from brides-to-be determines which pieces actually make it into the line. This means Becker's brides will be wearing styles before any others; perhaps even dresses that no one else will ever be able to see! Some other great things about this special shopping experience:

-The designs in this test program are some of the best yet! The collection focuses on classic elegance, innovative and glamorous fabrications, and fine detail, all resulting in fashion forward designs while emanating a timeless look

-Brides still receive the special discount packages

One Stylish Real Wedding

Becker's has been honored to appear in The Knot Michigan, Spring/Summer 2008 magazine. The issue featured "11 Stylish Real Weddings", one of in which the bride was photgraphed in a wedding gown and veil purchased at Becker's Bridal. The wedding of Christy & Kevin in Ada (pg. 50-56) was absolutely stunning as captured by The Knot magazine and Marie Clark Photography (photos compliments of both). We could not be more excited here at Becker's to have contributed and now witnessed the wonderful end result that of the brides we are lucky to serve here! Congratulations to Christy & Kevin, we wish you the best!

New Bridesmaid Department

One largely notable change that has occurred for us here has been the remodeling that has affected both the Bridal Salon and the brand new Bridesmaid Department. Becker's Bridal, housed in the same building that it always has been is now three floors of everything bridal: wedding gowns, veils, tiaras, shoes, jewelry, and more! All of our bridesmaid samples (yes, all 1,500 of them) have been relocated to our newly updated store across the street. This building, which has been re-painted, redecorated, and re-structured is now at your service for all of your bridesmaid, flower girl, and mother of the bride/groom dresses and accessories. This is where you will be able to search for your bridal party's dresses, where you will pick them up, and where you can call for any questions regarding any dresses other than your bridal gown. All alterations will still be serviced in the Bridal Salon, though you may pick up your bridesmaid gowns before and after such in the Bridesmaid store. We are thrilled that both departments are now offered greater space and greater service in a beautiful new atmosphere.

The hours for this new department are the same as the existing Bridal Salon hours :

Monday & Thu: 10am-8 pm

Tue & Wed: 10 am - 6 pm

Friday & Saturday :9-5

Sunday: Closed

This upcoming weekend presents a special wedding gown purchase opportunity. Thursday, May 1st - Sat May 3rd only, Seth Kruger, a representative from Allure Bridals, will be showing TWENTY, brand-new, Fall 2008 gowns. For these three days only, you will be able to not only purchase a gown that hasn't even hit the market yet, you will also get a limited time, 20% off of your special order. WHILE WE REMODEL!

There is an outstanding change going on right now. In order to better serve both our brides and her bridesmaids, we are creating a new, extremely expanded bridesmaid dress boutique. The third level loft of our bridal store currently houses our bridesmaid and flower girl dresses. We have recently decided to transform the look of the loft and our prom/ mother's dress department across the street. After this prom season, in which we are blowing out all prom gowns at 30% OFF to make room, what used to be the prom floor across from the bridal salon will soon be filled with our bridesmaid selection of over 1, 000 samples. Mother's dresses will still be available in this store, which will be newly remodeled and redecorated, complete with, finally, a public restroom. 'Wedding Party by Becker's' is the tentative name for this fresh building and more space/more personalized service innovation. As for what used to be the bridesmaid level in the bridal store, there is GREAT news for the brides. In addition to three levels of wedding gown samples, there will be more browsing space as well as more, highly coveted dressing rooms! As of right now the construction has only begun at the prom/mother's store, but don't worry, it does not interfere with your shopping! As for the prom girls of 2008, this is the ONLY year you will receive such beautiful designer gowns at such drastically reduced prices. Once these prom dresses are gone, we will be focusing strictly on wedding services and merchandise.

Dear Becker's Bridal,

What a gem of a bridal shop you are! Leading up to the wedding, my experience picking out my wedding dress is my most cherished memory. When my mother, grandmother and I walked in for the first time, we had no idea what to do or where to begin. We couldn't believe how many dresses there were to choose from! Jan was a godsend and one of the most good natured people I worked with in the entire wedding planning process. Jan helped me try on more dresses than I can count, and did so cheerfully. In the end, the dress I actually chose is one that SHE picked out for me that I would have never picked from the rack on my own. Without her, I never would have found my "soul mate" dress! We never felt pressured and she even encouraged me to take a lunch break when she sensed my anxiety about making a decision. My mother and grandmother STILL talk about her! The rest of the staff was also very helpful and really made this life event something very special to remember.

The are some new and exciting things going on here this month. First, the bride's are responding well to the new savings packages. We are now offering two different options to you when purchasing your gown: the Global package & the Timeless package. The two of these were created to save you even more on your dream gown than before and are inspired by the savings we once offered in the 1970's. Also, today we received our brand new, FALL 2008 ALLURE TEST DRESSES. The dresses will be on the floor for you to try on by February 23rd. We take pride in being the only store in Michigan able to offer you these designs so early. The response that the customers give determines which of these dresses will actually make the line. What is great for you is that, for a limited time, any of these dresses can be yours. How thrilling for you to know you are getting a dress before many other brides in the country, or perhaps a dress few people will ever have the opportunity to even try on. The test program is always one of our favorite times of the the year and after about a month the dresses are sent back to the manufacturer until the fall. Come in to try them while they are still here!

Fink-Simon Winter Wedding

The holiday season is always a beautiful one for weddings. A local couple was married in Fowler's Most Holy Trinity Church this past winter and Emily,the bride, was kind enough to share some photos from their special day. She wore a stunning Allure from one of the previous test programs. The bridesmaids donned black accented with white as well as full-length gloves to add an elegant touch. We were happy to serve the gorgeous wedding party and are excited to share with you yet another amazing Becker's Bride! Congratulations and thanks to the newlyweds~

A New Year

The New Year is already off to an exciting start here. For one, the blog is finally up and running. Hopefully all of the bright aspirations for it will follow through as the winter season brings our busiest time of the year. More importantly, in 2008, the exterior of the building is looking better than ever. Finished just in time for the snow to fall, everything from the brick to the awnings was refurbished. I anticipate a picture to be posted soon to show off what an amazing change occured. The project even uncovered a bit of history; under the old blue sign there existed the original carving of "Bank" from before my great-grandfather obtained the building.

Most all of the dresses for the Spring 2008 collection have either arrived or will be in shortly. Once again the designs amaze us and we are excited to see the new styles on all of the new brides-to-be.

In the upcoming week we will be hosting a trunk show for Allure Bridals which will be presented from one of the design team's very own, Seth Kruger. We always love to see what they have in store for us!

Lastly, another change made just before the new year has proven to be quite effective. We began utilizing a registration system to welcome new brides. It has helped extremely in learning about where each bride-to-be is coming from and what they are looking for.
